Dear Community Member,
Sudden cardiac arrest is a major cause of death in the United States. It claims approximately 225,000 lives each year – that’s 3 lives every seven minutes. Currently, only about 5% of sudden cardiac arrest victims survive. Every minute that passes without defibrillation cuts a victim’s chance of survival by 7-10%, and after 10 minutes very few victims survive!
The American Heart Association strongly encourages defibrillation programs throughout the community. Quicker emergency care for sudden cardiac arrest victims could save up to 50,000 lives a year in the United States. Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) are portable life-saving devices that administer an electric shock to re-start the heart, and are safe and easy for lay rescuers to operate in a public setting. Without AEDs, sudden cardiac arrest victims must wait until emergency rescuers arrive on the scene, which can take up to 5-10 minutes. Attached you will find a list of companies and organizations in the Orlando area that are proactive and have already implemented AED programs.
An AED committee recently formed in the Orlando area to assist the American Heart Association in educating the community about these life-saving devices. Together, we are eager to provide a presentation about AED programs to your association or club. Topics of the presentation would include: The need for AEDs, the simplicity of AED use, the feasibility for purchasing AEDs, establishing an emergency response plan, arranging training for appropriate employees, maintenance of the equipment, and legal issues surrounding AEDs.
We are working against time! Don’t delay in getting your AED program in place today! Please take a moment to call us so that we can prepare an AED presentation suited to your interests. We look forward to hearing back from you! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at (352) 255-5668 or mafox2000@yahoo.com.
